The security and safety of all community members is a top priority for the College—and clearly the primary mission of the Campus Safety Department.

LiveSafe is designed to provide students, faculty and staff with an easy way to directly connect with Campus Safety for your safety and security needs. The LiveSafe app is used by many colleges and other institutions across the country. Occidental community members will benefit from the easy-to-use features and mobile-friendly aspect of this platform, and it will enable us to better serve our campus community.

LiveSafe has updated its app with a new section for COVID-19 resources that gives you access to basic COVID-19 and health information and tips. In addition, you will be able to anonymously report any unhealthful behavior not in line with COVID-19 policies you see within the Â鶹ƵµÀcommunity, including social distancing and mask usage. The LiveSafe app can be used by those on campus as well as members of the Â鶹ƵµÀcommunity who are remote.

Use of the LiveSafe app is optional. We encourage you to use it and be assured that your safety is a priority for the Campus Safety team, whether or not you use the app. Use of LiveSafe’s app-based tools is not designed to replace other existing means of emergency contact.

LiveSafe is a free mobile app made available by Â鶹ƵµÀ. Designed to prevent crime and enable better incident response, the LiveSafe technology includes an app for smartphone users that is connected to a cloud-based dashboard. The app is designed to provide students, faculty and staff with an easy way to directly connect with Campus Safety for your safety and security needs. The LiveSafe app is used by many colleges and other institutions across the country.

The core features include quick tip submittal via text with picture and video attachments (including the option to stay anonymous), live chat with Campus Safety officials, fast access to emergency phone numbers that initiate location tracking when called, a comprehensive safety map that pinpoints incidents on or near campus, and a peer-to-peer tool called SafeWalk that allows friends to watch out for each other through location monitoring and group chat. Additionally, app users can receive important broadcast notifications about what’s happening on or near campus.

So long as users have the capacity to make voice calls, we encourage anyone in an emergency to always call 9-1-1. If, however, a user is unable to make a direct call, or if they must be discrete, then LiveSafe reporting can be helpful. Additionally, when the app’s Emergency button is used to dial 9-1-1, dial campus safety, or message campus safety, GPS services are enabled to help emergency personnel find your location.

No. When you submit a tip, your current location is only submitted once and is attached to that tip – tracking is not enabled. However, when you use the Emergency button, your location is tracked until you stop location tracking within the Emergency button screen.

Filling out the user profile will help law enforcement contact you if additional information is needed after you submit a tip. If you use the Emergency button, they will have immediate access to your name and contact information. This is imperative in emergency situations if you lose connection with law enforcement or if your identity is needed because you are in distress.

Yes, it is. If you check the "Send Anonymously" box when submitting a tip, your user information will show up as "Anonymous" in all of the fields. For example, even if Campus Safety uses the Live Chat feature to obtain additional information, you will still appear as anonymous.

When you click on the "Call 911" button from the Emergency screen, a confirmation bubble will appear with "call" or "cancel" options. This will help ensure that users do not accidentally call 911 if it is not an emergency.

The app will ask to access your contacts so you can easily add friends and family members to your LiveSafe contact list. This list is used for SafeWalk.

Yes. In order for the location-dependent features to work – like SafeWalk, tip submittal, and location tracking during emergency calls and messages – LiveSafe needs to be able to access your location. You will not be actively tracked when the app is not in use and when you are using non-location-dependent features.

Users will not be penalized for making claims that turn out to be untrue. So long as reports aren't purposefully false, people are encouraged to share information.

LiveSafe respects the privacy of individuals and law enforcement agencies. Evidence information belongs solely to the law enforcement agency for which it was designated.

No. While users are encouraged to provide a picture, audio or video evidence when sending reports, they should only do so if the circumstances are safe.

You can report any issues, concerns or questions related to safety and security. This includes suspicious activity, potentially dangerous situations, crime, accidents, assaults or repairs related needed to improve safety.

Select the Report COVID Unsafe Behavior card on the main LiveSafe screen and choose the type of activity to report. You can submit the issue anonymously if you choose.
