The 35 voices of the Â鶹ƵµÀ Glee Club will perform classical and contemporary favorites at its annual homecoming concert Friday, Nov. 5 at 8:15 p.m. in the College's Thorne Hall. The a cappella groups the Accidentals and Cadence will also sing.
Tickets for the homecoming concert are free for Â鶹ƵµÀstudents and employees with college ID, and $10 for family, friends, and the general public. The concert is one of many events scheduled for Occidental's annual Homecoming and Family Weekend, Nov. 5-6.
"I wanted a wide variety of historical styles, so I chose choral chestnuts, which are famous or iconic pieces, as well as pop songs whose arrangements are pretty complex," said Desiree LaVertu, Occidental's choral director.
The contemporary songs the Glee Club will perform include Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" and "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. The choral ensemble will also sing works by 16th-century Italian composer Giovanni Palestrina, 19th-century German composer Johannes Brahms ("O Schone Nacht"), and Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, as well as "Occidental Fair," the College alma mater, and a medley of football cheers.
Occidental's Glee Club has played a central role in the life of the College since 1906. For more information about the Glee Club, go here.
