In this year's Winter Concert, the Glee Club will put on a combined performance in collaboration with the Occidental Symphony. Our new double bass instructor from the L.A. Phil, Ted Botsford, will join the Symphony as a featured soloist, performing '²õÌýConcerto No. 2 in B Minor for Double Bass and Orchestra. The Occidental Symphony will also present '²õÌýFantasia on Greensleeves, based on the timeless English folk tune. The Glee Club will sing choral classics and holiday favorites before combining with the Symphony to perform contemporary composer '²õÌýAcross the Vast, Eternal Sky.
Directed by Desiree La Vertu, the Occidental Glee Club has played a central role in the life of the College since 1906, drawing musicians of the highest caliber and giving voice to our college spirit.
Dedicated to superb music making and to fostering ties that unite generations of singers, the Glee Club’s reputation for excellence has also carried the banners of Â鶹ƵµÀ far into the musical world, through national and international tours and recordings. Last year, the Glee Club toured Austria and the Czech Republic, performing in eight of Europe's most beautiful venues, from the Salzburg Dome to Melk Abbey. The 2019 tour will bring Glee members to destinations across Southern California, including Laguna Beach, Carlsbad, San Diego, and Palm Springs.
